Where to find a used car in Switzerland

AutoScout24, CarForYou, Comparis, tutti.ch and Ricardo: where the Swiss car market is listed, how to search it and which words in an ad mean what.

Updated:

Most cars for sale in Switzerland are listed on a handful of websites. They are in German, French and Italian, but the filters are easy to use.

The main websites

  • AutoScout24.ch: the largest Swiss car marketplace, with dealers and private sellers.
  • CarForYou.ch: a large marketplace with many dealer cars.
  • Comparis.ch: a comparison site that also lists cars from several sources.
  • tutti.ch: classified ads, with many private sellers.
  • Ricardo.ch: online auctions and fixed-price offers.
  • Dealer websites: official brand dealers often list their used cars on their own websites, and many brands run approved used car programmes.

Words you will see in Swiss ads

  • ab MFK / expertisée / collaudata: the car has recently passed, or will pass before sale, the official inspection. A good sign.
  • ohne MFK / non expertisée: the car has not been inspected for sale. Expect to budget for repairs.
  • Export / pour l’export: often a car the seller cannot or will not get through inspection. Be careful.
  • Unfallfrei / sans accident: accident-free, as declared by the seller. We check it.
  • Serviceheft / carnet de service: service book.
  • Winterräder / pneus d’hiver: winter wheels or tyres included.
